Day 2 of the Aussie Open was thunderstorm free, and saw a course record of 53 (-12) set by Paul McBeth that was later matched by Simon Lizotte. McBeth now leads the field, 5 throws ahead of Lizotte and Nate Doss. Check out the full results on the PDGA website. Be sure to follow along with live scoring on days 3 and 4 at www.pdga.com/live.
After the round, the competitors headed to Sorrento for a distance competition. Unsurprisingly, Simon Lizotte took the crown with a monster throw of 212 metres – a mammoth effort considering the humidity and less than ideal wind conditions.
Tee times for round 3 are now up on the PDGA website. All players are responsible for knowing their tee time.
The first PDGA Major in the Southern Hemisphere is under way! A surprising thunderstorm – the first raindrops in Perth in two months – cleared the course and delayed play for 2.5 hours. After the heavy downpour and hail the storm clouds cleared and the massive puddles were sucked up almost instantly by the very dry ground. Soon the dependable Perth sun came back out and the round was completed.
After 18 holes Nate Doss is in the lead with the low round of 56, one ahead of Paul McBeth and two ahead of Dave Feldberg. Stay tuned to the PDGA website for current scores and a more detailed article.
The 2015 Aussie Open organising committee is excited to announce three more sponsors of the first PDGA Major in the Southern Hemisphere.

Disc golfers from around the world have been asking us for months if the 2015 Aussie Open will have any qualifying spots available for the 2015 United States Disc Golf Championship (USDGC). With support from the USDGC, the PDGA and Innova we are now proud to announce that the 2015 Aussie Open will be offering five qualifying spots for the 2015 USDGC!
The Aussie Open will be the first tournament of 2015 offering qualification for the USDGC. With several of the registered Open players already having qualified at last year’s USDGC, the Aussie Open provides a fantastic opportunity for players to qualify. In order to ensure players can make the most of this opportunity, we have pushed back the registration deadline for the 2015 Aussie Open to January 14th.
We announced a few months ago that the pro player prize purse for the 2015 Aussie Open is a guaranteed $30,000. Now we are very excited to announce that the Men's Open Champion will be awarded a prize of $6000!
Full details of all payouts will be announced in January, after registration closes on the 5th of January. Be sure to get those registrations in before the deadline for a chance to get your hands on some of this huge prize pot.
We are happy to announce that the third disc in the limited edition Aussie Open fundraiser series has been released! The brand new Discmania P1x putter is now available in very limited quantities in grippy X-Line plastic from The Frisbee Shop and Discmania Store. This third disc in the series documents the trip that three Aussie disc pioneers made to Pasedena, California to compete at the 1978 World Frisbee Championships in front of a massive crowd at the Rose Bowl.
The P1x was born out of a high demand for a beaded putter from Discmania. It was ergonomically designed to create a very comfortable feeling in the hand. Its convex lower wing and the classic P1 top make this disc feel like it just belongs in your hand. The X-Factor of the P1x is its medium sized bead along the bottom rim of the disc. This bead just fits in the hand much better than the very apparent bigger bead on most other beaded putters.
Registered players for the 2015 Aussie Open will be treated to a player pack that is absolutely ‘chockas’ with some very special goodies. Our tournament sponsors have come through with some real treats and we are pretty excited about what we have in store for you.
Registered players have been asked for their sizing preferences to ensure that each player pack contains items specifically suited to them. To ensure competitors receive a full player’s pack in their preferred sizing, players need to register by December 15th. As you may know, Australia is pretty far from most places and so it takes a while for stuff to get here! Only players registered by December 15th are guaranteed to receive a full player pack.
Scarborough Beach Clock Tower
The official tournament hotel, the Sorrento Beach Resort, has offered the best rates for Oceanside accommodation in Perth to our competitors. The Aussie Open is in the middle of summer here in the Southern Hemisphere and thus a very busy time for a hotel right next to the beach. The hotel has also requested that we provide them with our rooming list in December. Players can choose their hotel preferences during the registration process, and our team will contact you to confirm your choice, make the booking and contact you to arrange payment.
The final cut off for registration for the 2015 Aussie Open will be the 5th of January. Players can continue to register until this time, however we recommend players compete registration by December 15th so they don’t miss out on some great items and the opportunity to stay at the tournament hotel next to the beach with free transportation to the course.
The second Aussie Open fundraiser disc is a metal flake Innova Thunderbird! These limited edition discs, with artwork designed by Jake Quodling, help promote the first major in the southern hemisphere and also continue the journey through Aussie Frisbee history. Now available through a partnership with Innova, these sparkly discs feature three more Aussie disc legends.
The initial release sold out quickly, but the Discmania Store has recently made more available. Grab one before they run out. Aussies need not worry either, as The Frisbee Shop now has a limited quantity available.
The 2015 Aussie Open Presented by Discmania is now open to everyone to register. All players with a PDGA number can register here.
Several of the world's best disc golfers have already registered to compete for the $30,000 prize purse. Be sure to book your spot today to compete alongside them in this historic tournament.
